What kind of nail polish is safe during pregnancy? and smelling nail polish remover while pregnant is may affect a baby? It’s probably safe but based on the smell I’ve decided to wait until at least after the first trimester just to be extra safe. I think there are 5 and 7 free nail polishes made without the most toxic chemicals that you can check out.
My doctor said any polish is safe as long as you are in a ventilated place using clean tools! You’re more at risk of infection so she said that the tools being clean are way more important than the type of polish!
There are nail polishes that are called three-free and five-free. These are a usually higher brand and quality nail polishes that are safer to use during pregnancy.
Three free means that your nail polish does NOT contain these harmful chemicals.
1. Dibutyl Phthalate
Five free nail polishes are even better because they do NOT contain these five potentially harmful ingredients.
1. Dibutyl Phthalate
4. Formaldehyde Resin
When you are pregnant, having your nails done every now and then should be alright but it is important as mothers to be that we do our research and make the best possible choices for our babies.

Zoya Polish Quad Nail Polish
Is Zoya nail polish safe during pregnancy? Zoya nail polish is the most recommended while pregnant. It’s free of formaldehyde and some other chemicals as Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate, Camphor! Zoya Nail Polish is the safe choice for you and the little one!
I rarely do my nails but Zoya seemed like regular polish the few times I’ve used it. I only wear Zoya nail polish – it is free of all those horrible potentially dangerous chemicals that other people have mentioned in their posts – plus it comes in gorgeous colors and has staying power like you wouldn’t believe – I’m going to keep using it exclusively even after the birth because I’m so happy with it- I’d definitely recommend it, and you can wear it 100% guilt-free!
I’m really impressed with Zoya. Polish chips really quickly on my nails, even with the good ones like OPI and Essie I usually have chips within a day.
Butter LONDON Nail Lacquer
Is Butter nail polish safe during pregnancy? This was the polish of choice for mum of four, Rebecca Judd, when pregnant with her babies. These non-toxic nail lacquers come in a range of funky colors to suit any taste with fun. I think Butter London is supposed to avoid the main nasties in nail polish
Butter is good, I also use Smith and cult but it’s super pricey! I’ve been using butter London polish. Pricy but 5 free. I do my toes every 3 weeks and the bottle is just lasting and lasting. It has no formaldehyde, no toluene, and no DBP! It stays on for about 2 weeks and the color is wonderful. I got it in Teddy Girl and it is a light pink and is so cute!
butter LONDON nail lacquers each feature a nourishing, vitamin-infused, highly-pigmented formula that promotes nail strength and health while offering you countless colors and finishes to choose from.
Anjou Peel Off 12 Colors Nail Polish Set
I’m pregnant right now and I’ve always been obsessed with having my nails done. When I found out I’m pregnant, I stopped going to the salon because of the chemicals and smells. I’ve been trying to find nail polishes that are non-toxic and don’t have a smell to them, and actually last on for a few days, but I wasn’t able to find anything for months! All the other brands I found, even though they said non-toxic, the smell was incredibly strong, so I steered away from those.
After trying Anjou I am extremely happy!! It not only lasts me about 4 days, but the peel-off process is so easy, and almost satisfying ha. The other great thing is that I can apply another color right away, and they dry SO fast! I absolutely recommend this product. I even bought it for my 7-ys old niece and she loves them!
Essie Nail Polish, Angora Cardi, Deep Rose Purple Nail Polish
Is Essie nail polish better than OPI for pregnancy? It really depends on what you are using each brand. With the Essieproducts, it is very inconvenient when you have a light shade and need to put several coats. I have not tried out any OPI products personally, but I have heard they are very good. In my opinion, Essie products look better and have a cleaner look.
In my case, I put Essie, Formula X and OPI in the same category! All 3 brands last about 10 days without chipping. When I use Essie, I use their base coat and their topcoat in the Gel Setter formula. As far as top coats with glitter, I prefer Formula X. OPI is very opaque so I might just need one coat for full coverage. All 3 have a different advantage! The absolute worst are the Revlon ones, they might have nice colors but they chip very fast so I avoid them!

OPI Nail Lacquer, Long Lasting Nail Polish
Is OPI nail polish safe to use during pregnancy? The polish of choice for many nail salons, this popular lacquer has been around for a while now and a favorite among many because of its great durable quality and knockout colors. Luckily for us, it’s also 3-free!
For today’s manicure, I started off with 2 coats of OPI Don’t Burst My Bubble, a soft pink polish: I then used 2 coats of OPI Better Be Blue and I Lily Love You, then another coat of Don’t Burst My Bubble on top of that.
My doctor said it was fine to use any kind of nail polish as long as you do your nails in a ventilated place but I won’t risk it with acrylics though.
Aside from the toxic trio, there are other ingredients, such as formaldehyde resin, camphor, TPHP, xylene, tert-Butyl hydroperoxide, parabens, and ethyl tosylamide, that can affect our health in different degrees. Pregnant women should pay extremely close attention to ethyl tosylamide and TPHP. This ingredient is suspected of causing developmental and reproductive toxicity.
Many toxic chemicals in nail polishes are plasticizers. This means they bind together to the other ingredients and help the polish be smooth, shiny, and flexible — no flakes or cracks. Just like many preservatives are overused, many chemicals are overused in the nail polishes, and it doesn’t affect the functions that much when we take a few chemicals out.
Besides nail polishes, expecting moms should also pay attention to lotions and scrubs and other products when they get their manicures done.
